Norges Bank achieved a 14.5% return for its Government Pension Fund Global in 2021, its second-best return thanks to the stellar performance of US public equities. The fund’s return was 0.74 percentage points higher than the return on the benchmark index, equivalent to NOK76 billion (US$8.5 billion).

In 2020, the impact of COVID-19 was felt among investment managers across the world and AIMCo was no different, incurring large losses. Since then, in an attempt to pursue stability and sustainability, the Alberta-based organization has appointed a new CISO, CRO, CFO, and on July 1 this year, a new CEO. As a result of some of these efforts, the fund enhanced its result in Global SWF’s GSR Scoreboard, from 84% in 2020, to 92% in 2021. The Ireland Strategic Investment Fund (ISIF), the country’s EUR14.3 billion (US$16.9 billion) sovereign wealth fund, has reported a solid 5.2% return for H121 bringing its total gains since the beginning of 2020 to EUR1 billion (US$1.2 billion).

Abu Dhabi’s largest sovereign wealth fund, the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority (ADIA), has out-performed its global peers, notching up a 20.9% annual return at end-2020 led by robust performance in capital markets, according to Global SWF estimates based on figures in its annual report published today.
