Established in 1921, NYSTRS provides retirement, disability and death benefits to eligible New York State public school teachers and administrators. It was created and exists, pursuant to Article 11 of the New York State Education Law. The System is the administrator of a cost-sharing, multiple-employer, defined benefit public employee retirement system (PERS) to provide pension benefits for teachers employed by participating employers in the State of New York, excluding New York City. AuM in 2021 is US$ 148 billion.
