The Ireland Strategic Investment Fund (ISIF) is one of the few sovereign funds globally with a mandate to support economic activity and employment, in addition to delivering commercial returns. Its predecessor was the National Pensions Reserve Fund (NPRF), whose resources were used to rescue the Irish banks. The assets and liabilities of the NPRF became assets and liabilities of ISIF in 2014. The latter is now required to seek long term returns in excess of the cost of Irish Government debt.
